FINAL FAREWELL AT 90: Fr. Prof. Bonachristus Umeogu Lays Mother to Rest in Anambra.

The remains of Chief Mrs. Veronica Chinyere Umeogu (popularly known as Nghara bu Uto) were laid to rest at the age of 90 in Unubi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, in a solemn ceremony marked by deep reverence and widespread attendance.
The funeral rites began with a Requiem Mass held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Unubi, presided over by His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha, alongside several bishops and priests.
In his homily, Archbishop Okeke made a clarion call to Christians to live lives worthy of emulation, emphasizing the importance of faith, humility, and service. He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased, entrusting her soul to the mercy and eternal embrace of God.
Also speaking, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Bishop of Awka Diocese, described Fr. Prof. Bonachristus Umeogu as a devoted “warrior of Christ.” He prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased, noting that her life reflected strong Christian values.
In an emotional tribute, Fr. Prof. Bonachristus Umeogu described the loss of his mother as deeply painful, but expressed gratitude for her impactful life. He portrayed her as a woman of exceptional virtue who dedicated herself to God’s work and the service of humanity. According to him, she lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation and was “an angel in human form.” Reflecting on life and death, he quoted a scholar, saying, “Life is a painful end.”
Dignitaries also paid glowing tributes to the bereaved family. Former Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Charles Esimone, extended his condolences and prayed for strength for Fr. Umeogu and his family. Similarly, Prof. Ikechebelu, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, sympathized with the family and wished them divine comfort.
The burial ceremony attracted personalities from various walks of life, including religious faithful, admirers, and members of the Communio Sanctorum Ministry from across the globe.
Late Chief Mrs. Veronica Chinyere Umeogu, a devout Christian, is survived by seven children, grandchildren, and many loved ones who will continue to cherish her legacy of faith and service.
